Nationally available qualifications may focus on education, ie the underpinning knowledge and understanding, or the development of competence, or include both of these.
Approved qualifications or Apprenticeship programmes for technician registration meet some or all of the Engineering Council’s requirements for the award of Engineering Technician (EngTech) or Information and Communications Technology Technician (ICTTech). Your principal reference point is the Engineering Council’s standards of competence and commitment that individuals must demonstrate in order to achieve professional registration.
You will need to refer to both the learning outcomes and the standards of competence and commitment, UK-SPEC or ICTTech. This will also be of help if you are developing Higher Apprenticeships (Level 4 and above) leading to IEng or CEng registration. The learning outcomes, exemplifying academic qualifications and standards of competence for IEng and CEng registration is available separately.
